Relations in its intensive 15-month course scheme and an
8-week applied field experience.
USAL
was a pioneering institution in the study of
international relations in Argentina, since the
establishment of its School of Diplomacy, in 1961, and
in 1964 with the creation of one of the first doctoral
programmes in the field.
The MA programme in
International Relations combines the study of the
traditional debates and themes in the field with an
interdisciplinary look into the problems more directly
affecting the region and requiring new or tailored
interpretative models to assess them. In this task, the
programme is nourished by the diverse traditions of
Latin American thinking about IR, which originated at
USAL in the course of the second half of the twentieth
century. These theoretical approaches flowed from
mainstream of European and North American thinking and
research on international politics. These were
frequently adapted and transformed by local scholars in
order to explain the indigenous conditions and problems
affecting Argentina's foreign policy and the
international relations of the region.
