Annual Seminar of Rotary International Peace Scholars will be
held on August 29th, 2005 with the participation of faculty
members, students, Rotarians and open to the community. This
II Annual Seminar will focus on "Challenges and Opportunities
in the Construction of Peace".
The
following activities will be held at the "San Ignacio de
Loyola" auditorium (Tucumán 1845, Buenos Aires):

- Opening ceremony. Dr. Juan A. Tobias, President of USAL. Dr.
Luis Vicente Giay, elected President and representative of the
Rotary Foundation, and other outstanding authorities. Speech
by Dr. Juan Javier Negri, President of Buenos Aires Rotary Club.
- 10.00
- Keynote speech: Challenges and opportunities in the construction
of peace, by Prof. Pedro Valenzuela, politologist of the University
of Pittsburgh (USA), specialist in peace and conflict resolution
topics of the Uppsala University (Sweden)
From
11.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. the Seminar activities will take place
at USAL School of Economic Sciences (Marcelo T. de Alvear 1335).
USAL Peace Scholars will be divided into four panels and will
make the following presentations:
I.
Power and discourse in international relations
II. Social exclusion: the challenge of peace construction in
Latin America
III. Social change as a demand for conflict transformation
IV. International cooperation as a tool for local development
Two
optional workshops on the construction of peace will be held
at noon.
